1974 'SKOPA' CHAIR BY GJERLØV-KNUDSEN & TORBEN LIND FOR IKEA
IKEA opened its doors in Australia in 1975 and the ‘Skopa’ was one of the first products sold. Designed by Gjerløv-Knudsen & Torben Lind who called it ‘spandestolen’ in Danish, meaning ‘the bucket chair’. Now featured in museums around the world, this simple chair is a keystone moment for both Ikea and furniture design.
This particular example is in incredible vintage condition, featuring only very light patina across the white plastic tub, very minor yellowing and it still presents bright, white and glossy as it would have in 1975. Remarkably the chair also features the original ‘azure blue’ corduroy button cushion which is equally in excellent condition.
Likely one for the enthusiast, or IKEA collector, this lovely piece is in highly coveted condition and would look fantastic as a feature piece in any space.
